Fans are calling on the WNBA to investigate the referees who officiated the game between the New York Liberty and Indiana Fever on Saturday, following a controversial ending to the fixture.

The contest went down to the wire, with the teams locked at 88 apiece with a few seconds left on the clock. Sabrina Ionescu earned a trip to the free-throw line, much to the disgust of the home fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, as they felt the Liberty star had initiated the contact.

The Fever still had a chance to either win or send the game to overtime after Sabrina hit both of her shots from the charity stripe. They went to Caitlin Clark, who was unable to get a shot off as Natasha Cloud played some clutch defense to force a turnover.

Clark, as well as the home fans, thought she was fouled, and she made that abundantly clear as she went after the refs.

While the strip looked clean enough, fans felt like the referees got a job done on Indiana.

“The Fever got absolutely JOBBED by the refs down the stretch yeesh,” Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports tweeted.

“We want an investigation @wnba The referees blew 3 major calls in the last 10 seconds that gifted NY this win,” another user declared.

“The Fever got screwed by the refs on each of the last three possessions of the game,” someone else echoed.

“WNBA fumbled the end of that one. Absolutely horrible officiating there, Fever were robbed. Not sure why the Fever head coach didn’t use their challenge though,” a fan offered.

The painful loss leaves the Indiana Fever at 2-2 to start the season, though it’s a lot better than their 0-4 record after four games last season. The New York Liberty, meanwhile, have improved to 3-0.

Clark and the Fever will have their shot at revenge on June 14.
